IF YOU WERE WRAPPED WITH SARAN WRAP OR A TEMPORARY BANDAGE
*Remove the bandage
After 2-4 hours remove your bandage, ensuring your hands are clean first. If your tattoo was done toward the end of the day, you have the option to sleep with the bandage on the first night. You must remove it in the morning.

*Wash the tattoo
Gently wash the tattoo with mild antibacterial soap, (our favorite is Dial Gold,) or a fragrance free body wash, and warm water. Always use liquid products, NEVER bar soap as this can harbour bacteria. Do not scrub your tattoo, but do a thorough job of washing/massaging off any remaining ointment, blood, or plasma.

*Dry the Tattoo:
Pat the tattoo dry with a clean paper towel.

*Moisturize:
Around day 2 or 3 your tattoo will start to feel dry and flakey. Apply a thin layer of unscented lotion at least 3 times a day. We do NOT recommend Aquaphor, any petroleum based products, tattoo “balms”, Vaseline, or Neosporin. Our favorite brands of lotion are Lubriderm, Curel, and Eucurin, but any drugstore fragrance free lotion will be ok. Just look for pump style or squeeze tube that you wont need to stick your fingers into to get product. Regular lotion application should be continued until the tattoo is fully healed. (2-6 weeks)

*Wash 2-3x daily:
Continue washing the tattoo a couple times daily for the first week, or until it’s fully healed.

*Avoid Re-bandaging:
Do not re-bandage the tattoo.

*Avoid direct sunlight:
Do not expose your fresh tattoo to direct sunlight and after two weeks apply sunscreen as often as possible.

*Avoid submerging the tattoo:
Do not submerge the tattoo in water (pools,
baths, ocean etc.) for at least 2 weeks.

*Avoid Tight Clothing:
Wear loose, breathable clothing to prevent irritation.

*Do Not Pick or Scratch:
Avoid picking, scratching, or slapping, as this can cause infection or damage to your tattoo.

*Be Patient: Healing time varies, but it typically takes 2-6 weeks for a tattoo to
fully heal.

*Consult your Tattoo Artist:
If you have any concerns about your tattoo or it’s
healing process, consult your tattoo artist or a dermatologist. Please do not follow the advice of your friends or the internet!

IF YOU WERE WRAPPED IN SANIDERM/SECOND SKIN (A BANDAGE THAT CAN BE WORN UP TO 7 DAYS)
*Saniderm is an adhesive bandage that is meant to be left on for multiple days.

*The ideal amount of time to leave this bandage on is around 5 to 7 days.

*Plasma, blood and/or ink will potentially build up under bandage, this is normal.

*If any liquid leaks out of the bandage onto your skin and the bandage remains compromised (it continues to leak or is now loose on the skin) you must remove the bandage.

*If any part of the tattoo becomes exposed to the air in any way, you must remove the bandage.

*Although the bandage IS waterproof, if water from showering enters the bandage and is in contact with your tattoo, you must remove the bandage.

*Even though the bandage is waterproof in the shower, you must still avoid soaking in bodies of water such as baths, pools, the ocean ect.

*If and when you remove the bandage, remove it under running water in the shower to ease the removal, using unscented liquid antibacterial soap (such as Dial Gold) to wash it immediately after.

*If bandage was removed before 5 to 7 days follow first set of instruction listed above.

*After removal, continue to wash tattoo 2 times daily and apply lotion when needed. All product information is listed in first set of instructions.

*If redness, irritation, pain or bumps occur around the shape of the bandage, you might be having a slight allergic reaction. If this occurs remove the bandage immediately and wash with warm water and antibacterial soap and the irritation should go away within a couple hours. If irritation persists, consult your tattoo artist immediately.
